The Pearson BTEC HND in General Engineering is a brilliant qualification for students who want to explore various engineering paths before specialising in a particular field. This HND qualification is on par with the first two years of a bachelor’s honours degree, commonly known as an associate degree, from international universities in the UK, USA, and Australia. It’s regulated by Ofqual, the UK government’s qualifications authority, ensuring its high standard and global recognition.

To design the Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Engineering, Pearson collaborated with respected industry bodies like the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). Renowned employers, including BMW, BAE, Siemens, Alstom, Eaton, and Jaguar Land Rover, have all contributed to this programme, making it highly relevant to today’s engineering industries.

One of the best aspects of this HND is its open entry – students from any stream in Grade 12 can apply, as long as they have a background in mathematics. The course is inclusive, supporting students from various academic backgrounds who have a passion for engineering. The HND is designed with a strong focus on practical learning, with 80% of the work based on coursework and 20% on exams involving numerical skills.

After completing the BTEC HND, graduates can transfer directly to the final year or last two years of a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree worldwide. This pathway can save students up to 60% on tuition fees and living expenses. Moreover, the practical experience gained through the HND makes it easier to find part-time work while studying, adding valuable work experience and helping with living costs.

Additionally, the HND qualification provides added points towards skilled work visas, enhancing options for employment-based immigration. So, if you’re aiming for a global career in engineering, this HND offers a fantastic, cost-effective starting point, regardless of your Grade 12 background.
