Program Overview

The KCIC–RMIT University Civil Engineering Transfer Program is a structured 2+2 international pathway designed to deliver a globally recognised Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Infrastructure) (Honours) with strong industry relevance. Students begin with two years of Bachelor’s-level study at KCIC in Chennai, building core engineering foundations in mathematics, engineering science, structural mechanics, materials, and construction methods. This stage develops essential skills in design thinking, problem-solving, and engineering analysis, with an emphasis on sustainable infrastructure and real-world application. Students then transfer to RMIT University in Australia to complete the final two years of the honours degree. The programme is industry-focused, equipping students to design, analyse, and manage infrastructure systems across transport, water, geotechnical, and structural engineering sectors. Learning is supported through advanced design studios, digital engineering tools, and project-based coursework aligned with industry standards. A key feature of the RMIT experience is work-integrated learning, including the Engineers Without Borders Challenge and industry-linked capstone projects, where students solve real engineering problems. This ensures graduates develop practical experience alongside technical expertise. The degree is aligned with international engineering standards and prepares students for professional engineering careers globally. Graduates progress into roles in civil engineering, construction, infrastructure development, and urban planning, with strong employability outcomes in Australia and across international markets.

Further studies / Careers

After completing the degree at RMIT University, graduates can choose to pursue employment or further study. Career options include roles such as civil engineer, structural engineer, site engineer, or project engineer across infrastructure and construction sectors. Alternatively, students can progress to MSc/MEng degrees in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Transport Engineering, or Construction Management, enhancing specialisation and long-term career growth.

Entry Criteria

Grade 12: Must have 70% in Maths and Physics (or) A levels (or) IB (or) JEE Main Min 70th Percentile. English Language Requirement: 70% in English subject (or) IELTS 6.5 (Each band not less than 6.0)

Study Journey from KCIC to Study Abroad

Year 1
Foundation - HNC

You will develop strong foundational engineering and construction skills in Year 1, building capability in engineering mathematics and science to understand forces, materials, and structural behaviour. The programme introduces construction technology, surveying fundamentals, and technical drawing with CAD. You will also develop digital, analytical, teamwork, and communication skills, preparing you for advanced civil engineering study and real-world infrastructure applications.

Year 2
Advanced - HND

You will advance your civil engineering knowledge in Year 2 with a focus on design, analysis, and real-world application aligned with progression to RMIT University. You will study structural analysis, geotechnics, hydraulics, transportation engineering, and construction management, applying these through design projects and digital tools. This stage strengthens problem-solving, project planning, and technical skills, preparing you for seamless transition into advanced civil and infrastructure engineering study.

Year 3
Bachelor’s Uni Transfer

You will progress into advanced civil and infrastructure engineering in Year 3 at RMIT University, focusing on structural design, geotechnical engineering, transport systems, and water engineering. You will apply these through industry-aligned projects using digital engineering tools, developing strong analytical, design, and problem-solving skills while working on real-world infrastructure challenges.

Year 4
Bachelor’s Hons

You will complete your studies in Year 4 at RMIT University with advanced specialisation in civil and infrastructure engineering. The focus is on integrated design, sustainability, and project delivery across structural, transport, and water systems. You will undertake a major industry-linked capstone project, applying engineering knowledge to real-world challenges while developing professional, leadership, and decision-making skills aligned with global engineering practice.

Year 5
Global Work Experience

In Year 5, graduates can access post-study work opportunities through the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), allowing up to 2–3 years of work experience in Australia after completing the degree at RMIT University. This enables you to gain industry experience in civil engineering, work with infrastructure and construction companies, and build practical expertise, significantly enhancing long-term career outcomes and return on investment.

Accreditation

Accreditation

The Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Infrastructure) (Honours) is accredited by Engineers Australia. As a signatory to the Washington Accord, this accreditation is recognised in multiple countries including Australia, the UK, USA, Canada, and India through the National Board of Accreditation framework. This ensures graduates meet international engineering standards and have strong global career mobility, including eligibility for professional recognition and chartered pathways.

Exemptions

The final degree is accredited by Engineers Australia, which supports progression towards professional recognition under the Washington Accord. This means graduates do not need additional academic exams for global recognition, only professional experience for chartered status.

Industry Collaboration

Students gain access to structured internships (10–12 weeks or up to 12 months), industry-based projects, and capstone placements, enabling direct engagement with employers and development of job-ready skills before graduation. Key industry employers and partners include VicRoads, Brimbank City Council, Metro Trains Melbourne, BMD Construction, and Multiplex, providing exposure to real infrastructure and construction projects.
