Program Overview
This specialised pathway is designed for students aiming to enter the global computer systems engineering ecosystem. Delivered in collaboration with Pearson, the programme begins at KCIC with a UK government-regulated qualification. Upon completing the first two years, students are awarded a UK Government-recognised Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computing, providing a strong foundation in digital systems, embedded computing, programming, and data structures.
Students then progress to the University of Essex through lateral entry, completing the remaining years of a BEng (Hons) Computer Systems Engineering degree at the Colchester Campus — home to advanced computing labs, brain-computer interface facilities, and specialist research infrastructure.
At Essex, students specialise in embedded systems, digital signal processing, AI, and cybersecurity, alongside an individual capstone project developed with industry partners.
Accredited by BCS and the IET on behalf of the UK Engineering Council and recognised under the Washington Accord, this pathway provides strong global recognition — preparing graduates for careers in systems engineering, IT architecture, defence technology, and next-generation digital industries.
Further studies / Careers
Graduates can progress to a Master's at the University of Essex with advanced standing, completing in 1–1.5 years. High-performing graduates may apply directly for a PhD without completing a Master's. Career pathways include systems analysis, computer network architecture, embedded systems engineering, software development, cybersecurity, and digital systems design — with 92% of Essex engineering graduates in employment or further study within 15 months.
Entry Criteria
Grade 12: Must have 70% in Maths and Physics (or) A levels (or) IB (or) JEE Main Min 70th Percentile. English Language Requirement: 70% in English subject (or) IELTS 6.5 (Each band not less than 6.0)
Study Journey from KCIC to Study Abroad
You'll build strong foundations in engineering mathematics, digital systems, programming, and professional practice. Core skills include C programming, object-oriented development, database design, and data structures — using industry-standard tools such as MATLAB, Python, Arduino, and Multisim — preparing you to operate effectively in modern, technology-driven computer systems engineering environments.
You'll deepen your computer systems engineering expertise with a strong focus on performance and real-world application. You will study digital signal processing, embedded systems design, C programming, and advanced data structures. A team project challenge and professional engineering practice build analytical and leadership skills, while specialist lab work develops hands-on capability in systems testing, integration, and performance validation.
Develop strong capability using industry-standard tools for design, analysis, and simulation. This includes MATLAB and Simulink for modelling, Python for data analysis, embedded platforms for systems integration, and specialist software for digital and electronic systems. Students design, test, and optimise complex computer systems — applying technical expertise within Essex's advanced research and laboratory environment.
Operate at an advanced level using professional tools to design, analyse, and optimise complex systems. Work with MATLAB, Simulink, and Python for modelling and simulation, alongside embedded platforms for performance analysis. The year centres on an individual capstone project — integrating technical expertise within Essex's specialist research environment, reflecting real-world computer systems engineering workflows.
Upon graduation, students receive a full international degree and are eligible for an 18–24 month post-study work visa, allowing them to stay and seek employment. This visa permits full-time work and does not require employer sponsorship.
