Program Overview

Motorsport Engineering is a highly specialised pathway designed for students aiming to enter the global high-performance engineering ecosystem. Delivered in collaboration with Pearson, the programme begins at KCIC with a UK government-regulated qualification. Upon completing the first two years, students are awarded a UK Government-recognised Higher National Diploma (HND) in Motorsport Engineering, providing a strong academic and technical foundation in vehicle dynamics, powertrain systems, aerodynamics, data acquisition, and simulation. During this phase in Chennai, students also gain race-side exposure through collaboration with T P Racing, developing practical experience in track operations, vehicle setup, and performance engineering.

Students then progress to the UK through lateral entry, completing the remaining two years of a BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering degree. The final stage is delivered in leading university clusters located around Silverstone Circuit, the centre of global motorsport activity, offering direct access to world-class engineering environments.

In the UK, students specialise in race car design, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), vehicle simulation, and performance optimisation, alongside a major industry-focused project. They also participate in Formula Student, designing and racing their own vehicles, a key differentiator for employability.

As a UK government-regulated pathway aligned with the Washington Accord (subject to the final degree programme), this route provides strong global recognition and engineering career mobility, preparing graduates for careers in Formula 1, advanced automotive engineering, and next-generation mobility sectors.

Further studies / Careers

After completing a BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering degree, students can progress to MSc programmes in Motorsport, Automotive Engineering, Electric Vehicle Technology, or Data Analytics, building expertise in performance engineering, aerodynamics, and simulation. Within 3–5 years, graduates typically move from entry-level roles such as junior design or data engineer into specialised positions including race engineer, aerodynamicist, or simulation engineer. With experience in projects like Formula Student and industry exposure, career progression accelerates into senior engineering roles across motorsport, EV development, and advanced mobility sectors.

Entry Criteria

Grade 12: Must have 70% in Maths and Physics (or) A levels (or) IB (or) JEE Main Min 70th Percentile. English Language Requirement: 70% in English subject (or) IELTS 6.5 (Each band not less than 6.0)

Study Journey from KCIC to Study Abroad

Year 1
KCIC

You will develop strong engineering foundations alongside specialised motorsport-focused skills. Year 1 builds core capabilities in engineering mathematics, science, design, and professional practice. You will study engineering mechanics and materials, automotive combustion, and vehicle dynamics and performance, applying these through race car design, manufacturing, and hands-on motorsport workshop practices to understand real-world vehicle systems and performance.

Year 2
KCIC (or) UK

You'll deepens your motorsport engineering expertise with a strong focus on performance and real-world application. You will study automotive aerodynamics, engine and vehicle performance design, advanced engineering mathematics, and automotive structures and materials. A research project and professional engineering management build analytical and leadership skills, while motorsport workshop preparation and inspection develop hands-on capability in vehicle testing, setup, and performance validation within racing environments.

Year 3
UK

You'll develop strong capability using industry-standard engineering tools for design, analysis, and simulation. This includes advanced CAD software such as SolidWorks and CATIA, CAE tools for stress and performance analysis, MATLAB and Simulink for modelling, and data acquisition systems for vehicle performance. Students also work with electronics platforms and simulation tools, enabling them to design, test, and optimise high-performance motorsport systems.

Year 4
UK

You'll operate at an advanced level, using professional engineering tools to design, analyse, and optimise race vehicles. They work with high-end CAD and CAE platforms such as CATIA and SolidWorks, alongside CFD tools like ANSYS for aerodynamics. MATLAB and Simulink are used for modelling and simulation, while data acquisition and telemetry systems support performance analysis. The year focuses on integrating these tools within a major engineering project, reflecting real motorsport engineering workflows.

Year 5
Work Experience

Upon graduation, students receive a full international degree and are eligible for an 18–24 month post-study work visa, allowing them to stay and seek employment. This visa permits full-time work and does not require employer sponsorship.

Accreditation

Accreditation

The first two years of this qualification, Motorsport Engineering, awarded by Pearson, is a UK government-regulated Level 5 qualification within the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), overseen by Ofqual. The programme is aligned to UK occupational standards, including the Engineering Manufacturing Technician standard (ST0841), and reflects frameworks referenced by the Engineering Council, ensuring strong industry relevance and technical grounding. UK study (BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering degree, is professionally aligned with the Engineering Council and recognised under the Washington Accord - global mobility.

Exemptions

Students progress through lateral entry into Year 3, avoiding repetition of earlier study and reducing overall time and cost. The BEng (Hons) degree is aligned with Engineering Council standards, supporting progression towards professional registration. If accredited, it is recognised under the Washington Accord, enabling global engineering career mobility.

Industry Collaboration

The Motorsport Engineering programme, developed by Pearson, is informed by direct industry collaboration with racing-focused organisations such as McLaren Racing and Prodrive. It is further aligned with the university progressions in the Silverstone Circuit ecosystem, reflecting the standards and practices of leading Formula 1 teams including Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, Red Bull Racing, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, Williams Racing, and McLaren Racing, ensuring strong relevance to real-world race engineering and high-performance automotive industries.
