Computing & Digital
Cyber Security
Develop skills across computing, software and emerging technologies, with progression routes into international technology degrees.
Overview
Data is now the world’s most valuable resource. Some professionals learn to protect it. Others learn to make it speak. This programme prepares you to do either, brilliantly.
It is a programme for analytical, curious minds: those who want to defend the systems the world depends on, or to turn data into the insights, predictions and intelligent systems that shape decisions.
Your journey begins with two years at KCIC, Chennai, earning a UK-regulated Higher National Diploma in Computing. Programming, networking, databases and security form a shared foundation, before you follow one of two pathways: Cyber Security, or Data Analytics.
Then, a final year in England at Sheffield Hallam University, rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework for the outstanding quality of its teaching and graduate outcomes. In Sheffield, you complete a full honours degree with advanced specialist study and a major individual project of your own.
You graduate with a BSc (Hons) from Sheffield Hallam University, ready for a career at the forefront of the digital economy.
Two Majors, One Journey
A shared foundation in computing. A choice of frontier.
Both majors culminate in a substantial individual project: research of your own on a real computing problem, supported by an expert academic supervisor.
BSc (Hons) Cyber Security (HND Computing, Cyber Security pathway)
Advanced penetration testing and information security management, enterprise applications in the cloud, and a choice of specialism in cyber threat intelligence, network security or offensive forensics. Accredited by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, and the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec).
BSc (Hons) Data Science (HND Computing, Data Analytics pathway)
Artificial intelligence and machine learning at an advanced level, including neural networks, alongside the ethics of data science and AI: fairness, transparency, privacy and accountability.
The Sheffield Hallam Way
Where computing is learnt by doing it.
Applied learning is the ethos at the heart of every Sheffield Hallam course. You learn from experts who blend academic knowledge with research and industry experience.
Cyber security students learn in the Home of Digital Technologies, with six dedicated cyber security labs, the largest set-up of its kind in the UK, including space designed for capture-the-flag attack and defence simulations. They work with industry tools such as OpenCTI, the MITRE ATT&CK framework and Hack The Box, and gain access to industry training and certifications through the Check Point SecureAcademy programme.
Data science students work on real-world projects using live datasets and business briefs, applying AI and data techniques across sectors such as health, finance and technology.
Here, every skill is built for the workplace.
